No Need for Lipo: How CoolSculpting Can Trim Your Figure

CoolSculpting Pointe Claire

If you’ve ever tried to lose weight with diet and exercise, you may have discovered how stubborn fat clings to certain areas of your body. For decades, people who wanted to address lingering fat deposits with a cosmetic procedure needed surgery, namely liposuction. However, today’s patients have even better options when it comes to cosmetic fat elimination. Montreal’s premier plastic surgeon, Dr. Arie Benchetrit, is pleased to offer CoolSculpting to his patients.

How CoolSculpting Works

Unlike liposuction, CoolSculpting is a non-invasive procedure that requires no incisions and no general anesthesia.

It is a form of cryolipolysis, which uses cold temperatures to destroy unwanted fat cells. To accomplish this, Dr. Benchetrit uses a suction cup-like device to lift skin and fat, and then places cold applicators on the sides of the lifted tissue to freeze the fat cells. The frozen fat cells slowly die and are eventually expelled from the body.

Although you may notice slight discomfort during this procedure, most patients are able to relax, read a magazine, or watch a video while it works. Dr. Benchetrit typically completes CoolSculpting in under one hour, though treatment times may vary depending on how many treatment areas the patient requests. CoolSculpting works well in most areas where stubborn fat accumulates, with the abdomen, love handles, thighs, upper arms, and chin being some of the most popular treatment areas.

CoolSculpting Recovery and Results

Because of its non-invasive nature, CoolSculpting does not require downtime. You can expect some bruising that will fade over time, but you should feel well enough to return to work immediately.

Results are not instantaneous since it takes time for the fat cells to be expelled. It can take a couple of months to see the results, with full results becoming visible within six months. Because the fat cells cannot come back, the results are considered permanent, but patients should strive to keep a steady weight moving forward to maintain their new contours.

CoolSculpting gets rid of 20-25% of fat cells in a treatment area. Some patients achieve their desired results with a single CoolSculpting session, while others undergo multiple sessions. CoolSculpting is safe to repeat every few months.
